“Les Cagous” to face “Reggae Boyz” in World Cup playoff

New Caledonia will face Jamaica in the first match in the intercontinental playoff for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The draw took place in Zürich, Switzerland on Thursday.

There it became clear that New Caledonia would face Jamaica in the first round of the intercontinental playoff.

Jamaica come into the final round of qualification after finishing second in their group in the CONCACAF qualifiers, behind Curacao, who booked their first ever World Cup trip.

Jamaica are currently without a head coach, after Steve McLaren resigned following the end of the regular campaign.

The winner of the match between Les Cagous and the Reggae Boyz will play DR Congo, who defeated Nigeria in a penalty shootout in the African qualifier, to advance to the intercontinental playoff.

The other set of matches sees Bolivia face Suriname, before the winner takes on Iraq for the final place in the World Cup.

The matches look set to take place in Mexico in March of next year.
