Vanuatu United appoint Riera as new head coach
Vanuatu United have made changes to their coaching staff ahead of the 2027 OFC Pro League campaign.

The Ni-Vanuatu side announced the departure of head coach Lars Hopp in a social media post, Monday.
“After leading VUFC through Season 1 of the OFC Pro League, Head Coach Lars Hopp will be departing the club. This decision comes after careful planning between VUFC and the Vanuatu Football Federation to ensure full alignment across the national pathway”, the post read.
“On behalf of the club, the federation, and fans across the country, we want to sincerely thank Lars for his dedication and commitment. He played an important role in laying the foundations for the future of Vanuatu football, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his coaching career”.

In the same post, the club announced multiple OFC Champions League winning coach and player, Albert Riera would take charge, alongside VFF Technical Director Emerson Alcântara.
Riera has won multiple OFC Champions League titles both as a coach and player with Auckland City, while Emerson Alcantara recently coached the Vanuatu women’s side to a historic MSG Prime Minister Cup tournament win.
“With VFF, the Vanuatu Government, sponsors, and our fans’ support, Emerson and Albert will lead VUFC and Vanuatu football into its next chapter—starting a new, united direction for the national pathway based on shared principles and a clear Vanuatu identity,” the post read.
