The measles epidemic in the Oceania region means the Oceania Football Confederation Executive Committee has put their foot down and canceled the tournament.
The epidemic has taken a hard toll on several countries in the region, with people dying or becoming very ill.
“OFC Executive Members and the entire OFC administration are determined to put health and safety first and despite the considerable financial and logistical impacts associated with the postponement, the Executive Committee’s decision was made in the best interest of our Pacific population,” a statement on the OFC website read.
The health authorities in Tahiti have advised against hosting the tournament and “cancel travel to French Polynesia in case of a person’s vaccination status is not known”
The tournament will now be held sometime next year.
