OFC Nations Cup cancelled
The biggest tournament on the continent has been cancelled due to the coronavirus. The Oceania Football Confederation confirmed the news on Tuesday.
The qualifieres had already been postponed, but now the tournament itself, set to take place this summer, has been cancelled.
The OFC confirm the tournament will not be played later this year or next year.
“The Nations Cup will not be moved to a new window as the priority for OFC is to ensure the FIFA World Cup qualifying process can begin later this year and these matches must take place in the FIFA International Match Calendar,” a press release read.
In addition to the Nations Cup, both the men’s OFC Champions League and the women’s OFC U17 Championship have been postponed.
“While the Nations Cup is the flagship tournament for men’s football in OFC, the health and safety of the football community is our top priority,” OFC General Secretary Franck Castillo said.
“With that in mind, it was only fair that our Executive Committee came to this conclusion as we continue our fight to stop the spread of coronavirus.”
