Stensness comes from Central Coast Mariners in the Australian A-League.

“I can confirm that it looks like we will reach an agreement with both the player and the Australian club. I will be surprised if we can’t land this deal by the ned of today,” says CEO Eirik Bjørnø of Viking to local newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad Monday morning, Norwegian time.

A few hours later, the deal was made official by the club. Stensness has signed a three-year-deal with Viking.

He will become team-mate with fellow Kiwi Joe Bell and Bjørnø at Viking says they spoke to Bell about Stensness before signing him.

They first noticed Stensness at the U20 World Cup in 2019, where they also noticed Bell. The pair made up the centre of midfield for New Zealand.

Stensness had this to say from his hotel room, where he is currently quarantining after returning to New Zealand from the Tokyo Olympics.
